Sea Levels: Maldives
There is concern that sea level rises might lead to the submergence of some small Indian Ocean Islands such as the Maldives. Figure 1
shows levels from four data sets. The one marked Jason/Topex
uses satellite data. The other three are based on levels
observed at tide gauges. The data sets show a rate of
rise of around 3mm a year over last 20 years. This is
similar to the global average rate for the previous 150
years.The tide gauge data for the Maldives were extracted from the file “prints.rlr” downloaded from http://www.psmsl.org/data/obtaining/. The satellite data were downloaded from http://sealevel.colorado.edu/content/regional-sea-level-time-series.
